Michele De Lucchi

Born in 1951 in Ferrara/Italy.

Michele de Lucchi studied architecture in Florence and founded the “Cavart Group”, which advocates for radical design, in Padua while he was still in school. In the mid 70s, he taught industrial design at the University of Florence and was one of Ettore Sottsass’s closest colleagues and friends. In the 80s, De Lucchi designed post-modern furniture, home accessories and laminate for “young radicals”. In 1988, he opened his own “Studio De Lucchi”; previously he had worked as a design consultant for the company Olivetti, where he was named Director of Design in 1992. In 1998 he founded the company “amdl” with offices in Milan and Rome.

He has worked for Rosenthal since 1995. In 2001, Michele de Lucchi was made a Professor of the Design and Art Faculty at the University of Venice and in 2006, was awarded the title of honorary doctor by Kingston University as recognition of his efforts for the quality of life and living.
