Timo Sarpaneva was born on 31 October 1926 in Helsinki, Finland, and died in 2006. He studied Art and Graphic Design at the former Institute for Industrial Arts in Helsinki. His organic, object-like creations were already the object of international acclaim back in the 1950s. Sarpaneva’s work focused heavily on combining art and aesthetics with everyday life. He is known as the poetic interpreter of the material world.
